After School at the Boys and Girls Club New Haven

What happens outside school matters. A lot! Our program provides a safe, positive and engaging environment where New Haven children and teens, receive homework help, have fun, build the confidence they need to achieve great futures. School bus transportation is available from New Haven Public Schools.

Enriching Summers |Lifelong Memories

Summer Camp at Boys and Girls Club New Haven

Summer at the Club means fun, friendship, field trips and unforgettable memories! Your child will join us in our air conditioned Club House featuring a gym, computer center, arts and crafts room, and recreation areas. Campers enjoy a healthy breakfast, lunch and snack each day. Academic enrichment is woven into the camp experience. Kids will keep learning all summer long while having an amazing time with friends

Creating A Healthier Generation

Our sports programs develop physical fitness, reduce stress and a promote positive use of leisure time and interpersonal skills. Through mentoring, coaching, conditioning and character development, we foster athletics, academics, and the importance of team work in our Club members.

Led by Tharon Mayes, Club Sports Director, former NBA player and Florida State University Hall of Famer, our AAU basketball program has developed and showcased talented players for more than a decade. Our Club House is home to some of the best players from across Connecticut and is proudly represented by dozens of collegiate players (Divisions I, II, and III) as well as a crop of promising young talent.

PROVEN PROGRAMS FROM
THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF AMERICA

Here are some of the award-winning, proven youth development programs that we incorporate into our afterschool, summer and sports offerings

Power Hour: 

This program helps our members achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, and high yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.  Power Hour is offered Monday-Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Club provides members with the space time, and assistance to complete their assignments. Members’ participation is tracked for recognition through our Power Hour Incentive Program.

Ultimate Journey: 

This program introduces young people to aspects of environmental stewardship. It includes fun, experiential, environmental education activities that cultivate an awareness and appreciation of the natural wonders that surround young people.

Triple Play Daily Challenges: 

This program promotes becoming more physically active through a variety of games, cooperative activities, and sports that develop a young person’s ability, confidence, and motivation to be physically fit.

Healthy Habits:

This program focuses on making choices that support a healthy eating pattern and physical wellness. Healthy Habits is made up of interactive practical activities that develop a young person’s ability, confidence, and motivation to eat healthy for life.

Triple Play Social Recreation: 

This program offers activities that are critical to positive youth development. This program builds the skills a young person needs to make healthy choices through cooperative, group-based activities that develop a young person’s confidence in themselves and connection to others. Through games room tournaments like table tennis, foosball and chess, Club members will develop skills such as sportsmanship and critical thinking.

Drama Matters: 

This program is designed to explore theatre and the performing arts. Youth will also learn about set design, set building, stage lighting, costumes, stage make-up and directing. It offers Club members different ways for them to express themselves creatively in hopes that they will discover a behind-the-scenes role in a production or on-stage performance.

Coding: 

This program nurtures member’s curiosity and boosts creativity with coding. It creates opportunities that aim to be fun and gamified to keep young minds engaged while learning effectively.  Learning to code has become an essential element of a child’s education and a great way for them to express their creativity. Kids will be challenged to solve problems using their critical thinking skills.
